Prolonged exposure is an individualized but structured treatment that focuses on exposure to the traumatic memory and experience with an emphasis on experiencing emotions associated with the traumatic memory. A thorough overview and summary is provided regarding the basic components of the intervention and the evidence supporting the intervention.

Presenter: Sheila A.M. Rauch, PhD, ABPP

Dr. Rauch is Director of the Serving Returning Veterans' Mental Health (SeRV-MH) Program at the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System and Assistant Professor in the Trauma, Stress, and Anxiety Research Group in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. She is currently Principal Investigator on a multi-site PTSD treatment outcome and mechanisms study with OEF/OIF active duty service members and veterans through a DOD funded. She also directs the screening and outreach program that includes a longitudinal assessment of mental health and other case management needs for all OEF/OIF veterans registered at the VAAAHS.
