This workshop provides a working understanding the ICD-10-CM in relation to the DSM-5.  It is designed for professionals who are comfortable with the DSM-5 and are interested in understanding the way it which it articulates with the ICD-10-CM. Features of the DSM and the ICD are compared and contrasted, and a “crosswalk” between the two systems is detailed in relation to Somatic Symptom Disorders, Eating Disorders, Substance Use and Other Addictive Disorders, Neurocognitive Disorders and Personality Disorders, among others.  This workshop builds upon Part I of the program, but covers different sets of disorders and can be completed independently.

Learning Objective 1
Describe at least three differences between the DSM and the ICD.

Learning Objective 2
Discuss at least three different disorders, or classes of disorders, that are in either the DSM or the ICD and are not in the other.

Learning Objective 3
Describe at least two differences between the ICD-9 and the ICD-10.

Learning Objective 4
Identify at least three different disorders that are conceptualized or classified differently in the DSM and the ICD.

Presenter: Greg J. Neimeyer, PhD

Dr. Neimeyer is a professor in the department of psychology at the University of Florida and a fellow of APA's Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology). A previous chair of the executive board of the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs in the United States, Neimeyer has also been inducted as a lifetime member into the Academy of Distinguished Teacher Scholars. At the invitation of the American Psychiatric Association, he completed their Train-the Trainers Institute in San Francisco at the official launch of the DSM-5. Dr. Neimeyer currently directs the APA Office of Continuing Education in Psychology in Washington, DC.
