With growing recognition that supervision is a distinct professional practice, requiring specific targeted training, has come specific guidelines and practice standards. This workshop is designed to provide participants a framework of competency-based supervision, new guidelines and best practices, including the most current perspectives and developments through vignettes and interactive problem-solving exercises. This workshop is designed to enhance participants’ competence: knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to supervision practice, including the best practices and evidence-supported techniques of clinical supervision. Content includes a review of targeted areas to focus on enhanced efficacy, technique, and practice. Original webcast date: Sept. 7, 2017.

Presenter: Carol Falender, PhD

Falender Dr. Falender is co-author of Essentials of the Practice of Competency-based Clinical Supervision (2016); Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach (APA, 2004); Getting the Most Out of Clinical Supervision:  A Guide for Interns and Trainees (APA, 2012) with Edward Shafranske; co-editor of Casebook for Supervision (APA, 2008), and Multiculturalism and Diversity in Clinical Supervision (2014) with Edward Shafranske and Celia Falicov. A member of the Supervision Guidelines Task Force of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB), she was chair of the Supervision Guidelines Task Force of APA. She directed APA approved internship programs for over twenty years.
