PsycAdvocate® Module Series - 5: State and Local Advocacy & the Value of Political Activities
In a joint collaboration between the APA Education and Public Interest Government Relations Offices, the PsycAdovate training modules (developed by Nina G. Levitt, EdD, Diane Elmore, PhD, MPH, and Sheila Lane Forsyth, MEd) are designed to provide psychologists and psychology students/trainees the skills to become effective public policy advocates at the federal, state and local level. Information in each of the modules is presented in a dynamic learning format that includes interactive Q&A, demonstrations, and links to key policy resources. The five-part PsycAdvocate® modules include: an introduction to advocacy, a review of the structure and functions of the federal government, an overview of the legislative and regulatory processes, strategies for effectively informing and influencing policymakers, and an introduction to state and local advocacy and the value of political activities.
Module Five, the last in the series, provides an overview of the role of advocacy at the state and local levels, as well as a discussion of the importance and value of participating in political activities.
